SSForge (Site Search Forge) is a web-based program to meets all your site search needs. With SSForge, you can create, manage and run your own site search engines on your website host with two easy to use web interfaces.
Pros: While the first priority in promoting a website is to attract as much traffic as possible, all that effort is no use if the visitors won’t stick around. They do when they can find something interesting quite easily. Interesting content is important of course. But for a visitor to find anything of interest to him/her in any reasonably sized site may not be easy without a search engine that can find content the visitor wants to see. So a search box that can search the pages and files is an important requirement for a successful site to function. SSForge (Site Search Forge) is a web-based program to meet all your site search needs. With SSForge, you can create, manage and run your own site search engines on your website host.
The application has two modules. One helps create search engines and put them on website. The site search forge or the SSM module lets you create these search engines. Beside creating a search engine, you get to create an index. There are several options as to how you want to create the index. You could update an index, add to an existing index or clear the current index and recreate the index.
Site search host manage or the SSHM module lets you manage the search engine accounts. Besides access user name and password you could decide on the disk quota and bandwidth limits. Max index files another parameter is set as “unlimited”. As the index files are held at a central place these parameters make sense. They’ll define the size and the amount of activity that can be supported. Page templates enable you to build site search engines with various styles. The style, font and color of output of the site search engines are fully configurable.
Cons: Maintaining the index files outside one’s own realm may cause concern for many.
Overall: Given that limitation the application does seem interesting and is rated at a 3 star level.
